This Jo is available in Tsubaki (Camellia japonica). With a classic length of 4.21 shaku (127.6 cm) and a classic diameter of 8 bu (24 mm), it is available either unvarnished (oil polish). Tsubaki is a high-quality wood that make wonderful gifts for teachers or friends.
Perfectly usable on the mat, it also make beautiful decorative weapons, in particular for a Kamiza.
Classic jo are adapted for the practice of Aikido but also Jodo.

- Available finish: unvarnished (camellia oil polish).
- Manufacturing workshop: Aramaki.
Urethane varnish is the "classic" finish for wooden weapons. This varnish protects the wood from moisture or drought, but the touch is less pleasant than that of unvarnished weapons. When wood is not varnished, it is necessary to treat it regularly (every two months on average) with oil (camellia or walnut oil or linseed oil). Unvarnished weapons are meticulously polished with fine-grain sandpaper, which in addition to the oiling work done by our team before shipping, justifies the extra charge. Only quality weapons can withstand a Japanese oil finish instead of varnish. This is the finish we recommend to the most demanding practitioners.
