This made in Japan Menuki features a Tachibana flower over Acala's sword (Buddhist's deity).
The flower of "Citrus Tachibana" is a flower of a mandarin tree, a variety very widespread in Japan and very appreciated for its flowers. This flower is the emblem of various Japanese organizations and was the one of the Samurai Kuge clan, nobles of the court of Nara.
Acala is depicted rising with one knee raised and the other leg still on the floor, possessing a raised (flaming) sword. Tendai Buddhism heavily emphasizes Acala. The qualities cultivated are protection but also immovability in terms of spiritual attainment and environmental protection.
