About Keyaki (Japanese Elm):

The Josei (upper) Keyaki (Japanese elm) corresponds to a selection of top quality Orme. Also known under the name of Ulmus in Latin, it is a solid wood of high quality and durability which makes it a timber of choice. Traditionally widely used in the manufacture of luxurious decorative objects, elm is now mostly used for the more traditional crafts (such as martial arts weapons). Indeed, after an illness affecting elm worldwide, the amount of wood available in the 20th century greatly diminished, making it an even more valuable wood.
