This lightweight Aikidogi is the latest Aikido specialized Seido design. - It is the lightest model in our catalog.
- It features a single Layer cotton/polyester blend fabric, developed by KuSakura for Seido (OEM).
- It is not see-through, despite its lightweight.
- Its sizing is designed to fit slim body types as well as standard and slightly stronger built.
- It has no back seam, improving comfort during Ukemi (falling techniques).
- Sleeves are designed with narrow cuffs.
- It does not feature reinforcements on the chest for a lighter feel and more comfort.
- Although it can be worn without a Hakama (it may feel a little long), it is designed to be worn with it.
Sizing recommendation:
The weight indicated in the options box is the ideal recommended weight range for the corresponding height. For example: 5 ( 170 ~ 180 cm | 70 ~ 80 kg) means that practitioners 170 cm tall and weighing about 70 kg or practitioners 180 cm tall and weighing about 80 kg will have a perfect fit.
For practitioners slimmer than the recommended fit, we do not recommend choosing a shorter size because the sleeves might be really too short.
For practitioners bigger than the recommended fit, we recommend choosing a bigger size if you do not mind a very long jacket.
This product consists of a jacket only. The products "pants only" is also available.
How we designed this Aikidogi
At the origin of this new design was the need for a light-weight - yet durable - Jacket that remains comfortable, doesn't become see-through when wet, and dries fast in order to be a perfect "seminar/travel" outfit for all practitioners, from beginners to Shihan, for both men and women. Learning from past mistakes, we entrusted KuSakura with developing the fabric. KuSakura is the only company in the world developing polyester/cotton blend specifically for Budo equipment and it is known for producing the very best competition Judogi on the market. As we are striving for the best of the best, working very closely with KuSakura to develop this fabric was the most logical choice.
Our second concern was to design a model without a back seam, providing maximum comfort, but without getting too bulky or opening at the chest, and with the ability to fit a wide range of practitioners. For that reason, we have completely redesigned the cut and sizing; we have decided to remove half sizes (.5) and to create slim sizes (Y). That was motivated by the fact that Aikidogi have fairly short sleeves and don't need to have sleeves fitted at the wrist (as in Judo). Also, the width of the jacket is more important than the length. Although a jacket that is too long might look odd in some cases, it does not impair movements in any way and it will be hidden as soon as worn under a Hakama.
Our third concern was to keep a sustainable production without any compromise on quality. Japanese production is decreasing fast, and it is incredibly difficult to ensure long-term sustainable production. Very often one link in the production chain happens to break, jeopardizing the whole production. This is one more reason why we entrusted KuSakura with the production of this model, as KuSakura controls the whole process of production, from beginning to end.
That also ensures that you get the best quality from a company with a century of existence.
Finally, to keep the jacket as light and comfortable as possible, we have removed the reinforcements on the chest. Those reinforcements were designed for Judo practice, and are relevant in Aikido only for very strong Munedori techniques (chest grabbing), which are not very common nowadays. Based on your recommendations, we have also managed to find a bleaching process that renders a pure white color without reducing the fabric's quality.
