Iaito Minosaka Dotanuki [Super Heavy Weight]
The Dotanuki is a High-End Iaito entirely made in Japan, made from a sand casted bubble-free zinc and aluminum alloy blade. Its name comes from the famous swordsmith Dotanuki Masakuni. His blades were not of a remarkable quality, but they were especially heavy and had many different original shapes, classic of the Bakumatsu period (end of the Edo period).
This model has a "super heavy" blade for an average weight about 20% superior to the other heavy blade models. The Dotanuki is not suitable for all practitioners; it requires strength, precision, and experience. If it’s not handled correctly, it can cause wounds. This model is particularly used in Koryu schools using very heavy blades. Its weight being very close to large Shinken blades without groove, it is a very good choice for Suburi practice if you also practice Tameshigiri.
In addition to its very well-designed Guribori (Tendril spirals) Fuchi/Kashira, the Dotanuki features a special Iron-made Guribori Kurikata. The fuchi/kashira is very similar to the Hon Jidai model, but in a Higo shape (rounded).
This model is available in various designs and Minosaka workshop has no specific recommendation for the mount, so feel free to customize as much as you would like.
